From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Fuel is any material that can be used to generate energy to produce mechanical work in a controlled manner. The processes used to convert fuel into energy include chemical reactions, such as combustion, and nuclear reactions, such as nuclear fission or nuclear fusion. Fuels are also used in the cells of organisms in a process known as metabolism. Hydrocarbons are by far the most common source of fuel in current use, but many other substances can be used as well. ChemicalChemical fuels are substances that generate energy by reacting with substances around them, most notably by the process of oxidation. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What fuel will airplanes run on once fossil based fuels are exhausted? Q. Cars have options of bio fuels and electricity.. Ships have nuclear options... But what fuel option does an airplane have? We hear of airline fleets expanding and newer, better and bigger airports being built all the time, but is there an eternal source of jet fuel? Asked by remyt69 - Tue Apr 24 07:29:03 2007 - - 21 Answers - 0 Comments A. Sorry if this answer is too long...but its the only way to describe it... My guess is that when things start to get tight there will be two options for aircraft and they will utilize both... First is ethanol... farm high sugar content crops... ferment them to convert to ethanol... a few additives and you've got some pretty good avgas. (Of course biofuel could work good for jet fuel too!) Second is solar energy... planes that have demonstrated this have been light in weight, with the majority of their weight actually being solar cells... Also because the cells are rigid and straight the wings on the plane were more "rigid" on top. They didn't have that nice curve that generates the most lift. Solar companies are now developing solar cells… [cont.] Answered by Ryan D - Tue Apr 24 11:31:01 2007 What were the main sources of fuel before the discovery and use of fossil fuels? Q. What are their historical origins? What was the development of man's ability to harness the pre-fossil fuel sources of energy? How did the amount of energy harnessed from these sources compare to what we use today for fuel? Asked by LibbyLu - Tue Apr 20 17:21:41 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Answered by Ratz - Tue Apr 20 18:52:19 2010 Can I get better fuel economy on a diesel by installing a less restrictive air intake and larger exhaust?
Q. I have an 06 F250 with a 6.0 L diesel and don't get much fuel economy. I don't want to put a chip in it because I don't think it wil;l help the fuel economy and may void the warranty. Asked by Jerry C - Sat May 17 19:58:22 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. A turbo-back exhaust will help with economy some. It will also lower exhaust temperatures (something important to watch on a modified diesel, even a stock diesel in my opinion). The intake will help some as well. Remember, the truck is forced induction, so it is sucking a lot more air than a naturally aspirated motor would. A mild tune chip could help with economy as well, or an adjustable chip on a lower setting. I run an '04 6.0L with the Edge Juice w/ Attitude controller, The truck is always run on setting #2 'Tow-Mode'. My boost pressure doesn't get radical, but I can bring the EGTs to unsafe levels on a long pull on a hot day (factory exhaust). The chip avg me 1.5mpg increase on setting #2. #1 is the economy mode but I can't see a… [cont.] Answered by boogie_4wheel - Sat May 17 21:38:58 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Fuel"
