What is the alternative to elephant culling?
Q. I know that elephant culling is mean, but what is the alternative? Please tell me the alternatives, not that 'they are no alternatives'.

A. Actually it is an alternative, it's called human culling. That means, if you reduce the human population you reduce the human impact on animal populations and there is more room for the animals.

What is the difference between alternative schools and special schools?
Q. Many people always assume that only special needs students go to alternative schools when it's not true. Isn't it against the "least restrictive environment" to send special needs students to the alternative school? Shouldn't they go to a special school since it meets their needs? Alternative schools don't support special needs students well. They don't have speech or self-contained classes. What kind of parent would send their own special needs child to the alternative school that doesn't even meet their needs? The special school would be more appropriate. I thought alternative schools were schools that were nontraditional. I thought they provided a choice for students. Students aren't forced to go to alternative schools. It's… [cont.]

A. You are correct with your statement that parents with a special needs child should NOT send their child to an alternative school. Alternative schools are for those children that are at an impass and the public school system is looking for a way to put that child out of their school system. They explain it to the parents as a "way of helping their child" when in reality, it helps them...the school. The school will earn an A grade because they have less "special education" students in their school, who may not pass all the state tests...ie: FCATS. Special needs students should be placed in the public schools and have IEPs in place that met all the childs individual needs, as documented by their parents, teachers, physicians and social… [cont.]

Can anyone tell me the difference between Alternative and Popular Music?
Q. The problem is that whenever an alternative music becomes popular, then it's not alternative anymore, is it? Or does it remain the as alternative but with different popular genre? Now I AM confuse. Then how about explain to me the whole thing or throw me some links. Thanks. I need this for something so important.
Asked by Vincent Valentine - Mon Jul 5 23:41:40 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If an alternative song becomes popular, it stays in the Alternative genre. "Popular" isn't really a genre, but a lot of people consider it to be one just because it's easier to generalize all (or most) of the current radio hits as such. For instance, when The Script started playing, they considered themselved to be in the Alternative genre. Their most popular song, Breakeven, plays on the radio a lot now, but that doesn't mean the STYLE of music is totally different now. It's all about the music's style, not necessarily about radio play. I hope I helped a little bit. :D

What is the cleanest alternative fuel that has been discovered ?
Q. I know each alternative fuel comes with a price (as does everything). The extracting of hydrogen is supposedly not environmentally friendly, this being one of the prices of its implementation. I am not an expert on the subject though. Does anyone know what the cleanest alternative fuel available or that has been found is ? I also am wondering what some of the pros and cons of some of the others are. I suppose cleanest could mean one that is the most environmentally and economically friendly source available so far.

What is the alternative to a petroleum based economy?
Q. America is the largest consumer of oil in the world, with the EU not far behind and China repidly gaining ground. Humanity as a whole is consuming more oil then at any other period in history. At this rate we will completely strip the earth of its petroleum reserves by 2050 (excluding coal and shale). What can we do about it? What is the alternative?

A. A bunch of things will come in to replace it. Wind power is ample and that's off-the-shelf technology at this point, and they've got the bird-kill thing worked out. I have my doubts about ethanol due to the distillation cost, but I think biodiesel is a winner. I think the economics of solar power have changed to the point where you could install a roof panel, fold it into your mortgage and be cash-flow positive from day 1. Moving transport from oil to electric is gonna happen, through plug-in hybrids and railroad electrification, and high-speed rail taking a bite out of the aviation fuel burn. We might have to "twist the arm" of a few countries to get onboard with conservation, but that's what aircraft carriers and the World Bank… [cont.]

This is where someone pays to have riding privileges and some care responsibilities, but you keep the horse on your property and can still use them for your own personal needs as well, as long as it meshes well with the plans that the half boarder has. It's a great way to have some extra income and also it's good for your horse because she'll get some extra exercise. Of course this option is only viable for an animal that is at a certain point in a training program where having multiple riders is feasible. What is the name of this alternative source of energy called?

What is the alternative mechanism that might accomplish the presence of carbon recycling on earth?

Not sure about the question but as most life on earth is referred to as "carbon based", I can say that the decomposition of carbon, the absorption of carbon by plant life and its journey through the life cycle, and the dissolving of excess carbon in the oceans all have seem to have a stabilizing effect but this is just an observation of chemical interactions that could be thrown into chaos by a number of factors and may not be stabilizing at all but simply evidence that we have reached a measurable equilibrium. Carbon is so common that it is hard to imagine another mechanism based on the same percentages of the same elements that seem to be common in the universe, but varying temperatures and light have a way or revealing other… [cont.]

What are some alternative ideas for health care reform?
Q. Since many people are in opposition to the health care reform that Obama is proposing, what are some alternative ideas to health care reform? If there really is a problem with our medical system, what are some other ways of fixing it besides creating one centralized insurance company?

A. Health care savings accounts are one big aspect of it. People have an account that is created from which they can draw when they need health care. Since they are put in charge of their health care, they become "informed shoppers" because they get to KEEP the money they save. Once doctors, hospitals, clinics, therapists, etc., must "compete" like a REAL business, costs will drop. Of course, we can't talk about REAL reform without talking about tort reform... something which is glaringly lacking in the current bill. Another (partial) solution is to make it possible for drugs to become generic faster. Let the government fund pharmaceutical research so the drug companies don't have the overhead they want to recoup once a drug is discovered.
