how to make alcohol fuel energy from fruit peelings?
Q. i have these citrus fruit peelings, and i want to recycle them. how can i make it as an alcohol fuel energy?
Asked by angeL carBy - Fri Sep 8 08:21:00 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The sweeter the fruit the better the results. Grind the peelings and seperate the sugar laden liquid from the meaty bits. Ferment the mixture using yeast to convert the sugars to alcohols. Seperate the alcohols from the water yeast and contaminants, by boiling them off and recovering them (also known as a still). You have made fuel alcohol or moonshine depending on your point of perspective. Be careful you don't go blind.

What's the most efficient use of an alcohol-based fuel?
Q. Would you get more energy from a gallon, (or four liters) of ethanol/methanol through an internal combustion engine, an external combustion engine (steam?), or through an electric fuel cell? "Efficient" meaning most miles per gallon.

A. Mainly when the automotive ind. decides to earn less money and throw away part of the technology they've been using for about 90 years. But regarding alcohol it is already used in some countries like Brazil, but there is no big difference... we should go for hydrogen or solar... well actually water looks nice but I don't think it'll work.

How efficient is alcohol as a fuel?
Q. It's been reported that gas with ten percent alcohol reduces your mileage by ten percent. That means the alcohol is contributing nothing as energy. That can't be right, can it? Wouldn't it stand to reason that E-85 would give you 85% less mileage? And, that's not true. What gives?
Asked by Jett Black - Wed Oct 1 08:11:42 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Dear Mr. Black, ***One fuel will be about as "efficient" as another. If you are burning air as an oxidizer you are heating the nitrogen as well as the engine parts and extracting the energy from the process. Alcohol has less energy per gallon than gasoline. it also weighs less. Enlarge the jets in the carburetor and your gasoline engine will run great! Diesel has about twice as much energy per gallon as gasoline. It also weighs more. A diesel engine weighs about twice as much as a gasoline and costs about twice as much, but will last much longer in service with less maintenance. A good steam engine weighs less, but needs a boiler. It can however burn any fuel---solid, liquid or gas. The boiler will "weigh a ton". ***Gasoline is… [cont.]

A. 100 grams methanol 10 grams of pure wax flakes or powder (you may shave some from a white candle) 3 grams of lye (NaOH dissolved in as little water as possible) Heat the alcohol with the wax until the wax melts (be careful with the poisonous fumes, and explosive gases, use a water bath). Add the lye, and stir. Lye is extremely caustic, take care, read the labels on the container. Put the solution in a suitable container, let it cool down. ref:

Q. WTF some of these answers are wierd.
Asked by timothy t - Fri Jan 22 11:28:48 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes it does. Older cars (and I don't know what date but I'm guessing pre 2000) use a different rubber compound on their fuel lines that break down quicker with Methanol fuels. Also Methanol has a tendency to attract water, which can cause metal lines and gas tanks to rust. Newer cars are less prone to the rubber breaking down and I think the fuel lines and gas tanks are made of an alloy that doesn't rust.

Which plant is the best source of Ethernol (Alcohol) fuel?
Q. From which plant variety can we obtain the most amount of ethernol for use as a fuel? Is it Sugar cane, Corn, Wheat ... or is there any other plant which can provide more ethernol than any of these. I am mostly keen in plants that grow in tropical countries. Thank you very much for your interest!!!

A. You mean Ethanol. In the upper mid-west of USA it is corn (cool climate). In tropical(hot) climates it is sugar. Both require much heat (energy) to reduce or change the product into ethanol.

A. Yes, some places already have Gasohol, which is a Blend, and a Step in the Right Direction. To Run Straight Alcohol would take a great deal of Modification to a Vehicle, many of the Seals and Gaskets would have to be upgraded on existing Vehicles, so, at this Point, a Gasohol Blend would be the way to go.Back in 1978 it was available Here in North Carolina, easily identified by the large Drawing of an Ear of Corn on the Gasoline Station Pump. And My Car ran Great on It. Now, it's gone. What happened? Does Willie Nelson know about This? God Bless Him! Could You please pass this Question on to Him? Bio-Gas would go great with Bio-Diesel!

A. I don't know about your particular bike, including typical ambient temperature and altitude, but you've probably got a 34mm CV carb with a 105 main on the front and 110 main on the rear, and a 40 slow jet. You're going to need to increase the fuel flow capability by at least 25% because of the additional amount of ethanol required to reach stoich air/fuel, which means you're going to need substantially larger jets and possibly a larger fuel line and a low pressure fuel pump. Also, alcohol is much more corrosive, and will attack and deteriorate just about any metal except stainless steel, given enough time and use. It also tends to melt some rubbery products and gaskets, so you'll probably want to replace all fuel system parts that aren't [cont.]

A. It wouldnt work, alchol dosent evaporate like fuel and also isnt combustible enough. its because fuel evaporates so quickly and it is really combustible that it is powerful enough to "explode" causing the piston (in a car) to move ect ect ect . alochol is a product from plants basically, sort of a simmilar idea to bio fuel.

Asked by slivers - Sat Jun 3 00:53:52 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. u can take a coffee can, a roll of toilet paper, and a bottle of rubbing alcohol and make a homemade stove/heater. take the coffee can, put the toilet paper inside, pour the bottle of alcohol in the can. allow the toilet paper to soak up as much of the alcohol as it can. witha a lit peice of paper ignite the toilet paper inside the can, it might flare at first, but will go back down. it wont make food taste bad, pr emit corbonmonoxide, since alcohol emits water vapor after it is ignited. just be careful not to tip the can though, then you will have a problem. the can heater should burn off of one bottle of alcohol foe several hours, and emits almost an invisible flame. i would not recommend using alcohol in a coleman stove, camp… [cont.]

A. You can't really do this at your house. Alcohol (I'll use ethanol for these figures) freezes at -114.3 degrees C. One of the coldest available materials to use as a coolant is dry ice, or solid carbon dioxide, and that has a temperature of only -78 degrees C... not close enough to solidify alcohol. Something like liquid nitrogen (which I imagine would be extremely hard and extremely expensive to get) is cold enough at -210 degrees C, and there are other materials in between, but these units that use liquid nitrogen coolant only can claim to cool to about -100 degrees C, which is still too cold. So as for household ways to solidify alcohol, it can't really be done.

A. yes in fact it can be used. the ME163 comet used methanol(ethanol can be used as a substitute as long as you get the proof high enough) as part of its fuel mixture to great effect. however it was a highly flammable combination of fuels, and it was also highly corrosive as well. many ME163's exploded on the runway due to minor fuel leaks. the ME163 used two fuel mixes that were combined in a combustion chamber to create thrust; C-stof = methanol/hydrazine/water T-stof = hydrogen peroxide, used as hypergolic oxidizer with C-Stoff these two fuels when mixed created an immediate chemical reaction, and burst into flames. the ground crews wore protective clothing, thoroughly flushed the fuel system and engine with water, and only then… [cont.]
